Conditions We Treat

Older man sitting on his couch leaned forward holding his lower back with his right hand in pain.Disc Bulge/Sciatica

Discs are cushion-like structures between the vertebrae of the spine. They act as shock absorbers helping to maintain flexibility and absorb pressure. These discs can become damaged, herniated or bulge due to injury or degeneration. Sciatica is a term used to describe pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back down through your hips and legs. This nerve pain can be caused by a disc injury, poor posture or spinal misalignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do chiropractic adjustments do?

When a vertebra is out of alignment and moving the way it should, it can cause pain and nerve interference. A chiropractic adjustment returns normal function to the vertebra, restoring proper nerve activity; it’s like rebooting a computer back to factory settings. That is essentially what spinal manipulations do for the brain and body, it reboots them.

What is the popping/cracking sound a chiropractic adjustment makes?

When the spine is adjusted it can make a popping sound, that is simply air being released in the joint. When you crack your knuckles, it is not the bone actually cracking but air being released when the joint repressurises. This type of adjustment is called a diversified adjustment. Other adjustment types make no noise at all and have the same effect on the spine. Our chiropractors use many types of spinal adjustments to meet each patient’s needs.

Are all chiropractors the same?

While all chiropractors use similar treatments, they may have different approaches on how to treat a patient to get the best result. As with any medical profession, doctors can have their own skill sets and specialties that set them apart. It is best to set up a consultation to determine which chiropractor is best for you.

Is chiropractic covered by insurance?

EWC does accept some insurances, however, every plan is different and therefore deductibles, copays and out of pocket expenses vary greatly. Our experienced insurance manager will verify your coverage and provide you with a summary of your chiropractic benefits. Please note verification is not a guarantee of benefits or payment. We also offer very affordable cash rates and care packages to fit your needs.

The doctor will perform an exam consisting of Range of Motion, Orthopedic and Neurologic testing, and palpation to determine the cause of your pain.

If necessary, x-rays will be taken in the office and reviewed during your visit. The doctor will then go over their findings and recommendations, and if appropriate, treatment may begin that same day.

The second visit will include a more thorough report of findings, focusing on your specific concerns and outlining the goals of both you and the doctor. A recommended treatment plan will be presented, and treatment will begin accordingly.
